How is the programme structured?
With this course you start directly with practice based assignments related to media and entertainment. The practice of the television, event, music and crossmedia industry is stressed by doing projects, visiting companies and attending guest lectures. You will take a major in Communication, Creative Business and Media in the first and second year. Besides that, you will take courses from Media and Entertainment Management and you will compile your own study programme by selecting differentiation minors. In the first semester of the third year you will do an internship at a company in the media or entertainment industry. You will graduate in the second half of the fourth year.
Major-minor
The bachelor's degree programme International Media and Entertainment Management (or IMM) consists of three parts:
- The major in Communication, Creative Business and Media (focus on the development of general competencies during the first two years)
- The specialization minor (International Media and Entertainment Management or International Music Management))
- The differentiation minor (third and fourth year)
Your minors focus on specific themes and skills for your Media and Entertainment Management programme. Together with the major they build your four-year study path. The major makes up 50 percent of your bachelor programme.
Differentiation minors
In the third year, you will select differentiation minors that match your interests and ambitions. These differentiation minors set you apart from other students and allow you to work on your own profile. You can choose a differentiation minor in the field of, for example, Event Productions, Film Studies, Artist Management or Art and Business of Gaming. It is also possible to do a minor abroad. The IMEM course has contacts with the US (television management, Music Business), the UK and Germany (Event Management) and Finland (Music and Interactive Media).
Work placement
In the third year, you will work as an intern in a business environment of your choice for about six months, where you can put into practice what you have learnt so far. Do you choose a bigger or a smaller company? Do you want to go abroad? That's possible too! Inholland University has an extended database of national and international companies that offer work placements. This list includes MTV Networks, Loveland Events, Endemol and Eyeworks. An internship abroad is not only exciting and fun, but also an experience for life. It looks good on your resume, which gives you a lead in job interviews.
Graduation options
In the Media and Entertainment Management course you can specialize yourself through your choice in differentiation minors. Examples of specializations are television, events, music, cross media, films or games. If you want to specialize in music, choose IMM in Haarlem.
Locations
You can study International Media and Entertainment Management on these locations: The Hague and Haarlem
Help and advice
At the start of your study a teacher will be assigned to you for student career coaching. He will support you throughout your study, make sure you feel at home at the higher education and he will teach you how to learn effectively. For workgroups and projects, a coach will closely monitor the progress. For guidance on personal issues such as financial matters, illness or bereavement at some point, a student counsellor can provide advice and a sympathetic ear. We handle all personal matters with the greatest regard for your privacy.
Double Degree Programme
If you study IMM in Haarlem, you can apply for the Double Degree option. This means that you will be studying on the Music and Media Management programme at the Jyväskylä University in Finland for at least one year. You can choose between a fixed programme in the second year and a number of third year elective modules. If your dissertation is acknowledged by both institutions, you will receive bachelor's degrees from both institutions after you have successfully completed the four year study programme.
