Conservatorium Haarlem to organise fourth International Writers Camp

On Tuesday 6 November, the ambitious fourth edition of the International Writers Camp is set to begin at Conservatorium Haarlem. This year, 75 international students from 22 conservatoires in 17 different countries will settle in Haarlem. Together with 57 students from Conservatorium Haarlem, they will work on writing, recording and presenting 'radio-ready' songs. This event will contribute to efforts of the Conservatorium in further establishing its international reputation.

Artistic leader Richard Zijlma: 'This edition will take our Writers Camp to the next level. We will welcome students from no fewer than 22 different international schools of music. While these students know that they will enjoy a unique creative experience here, the professionals are looking forward to seeing the next generation of talented producers and songwriters at work. We are very happy with the support we are receiving from the Municipality of Haarlem and the Philharmonie, where the final presentation will be held again this year.'

Some of the participating students hail from COPA Campus of Performing Arts (South Africa), Hochschule Macromedia (Germany), JMC Academy (Australia), Leeds College of Music (UK), Metropolia (Finland), Music Academy International (France), Napier University (UK), The True School of Music (India) and Berklee Valencia Campus (Spain).

The International Writers Camp will feature prominent music publishers and labels visiting Haarlem, such as BMG/Talpa, Sony/ATV Music Publishing and CTM Publishing. They will give the students assignments to write, record and produce new songs, on which they will set to work day and night in groups of three until Friday. The students will be coached during this process by national and international professional songwriters, producers and teachers, including TommyD (Adele, Jay-Z and Beyoncé) and Danton Supple (Coldplay, Morrissey, Starsailor).

Part of Inholland University of Applied Sciences, Conservatorium Haarlem has two graduation tracks: Pop and E-music. Conservatorium Haarlem received a high rating in the 2019 higher professional education guide (HBO Keuzegids) this October, being awarded the special quality mark ‘Topopleiding [Top Course] 2019’. This occasion is the fourth time in a row that Conservatorium Haarlem has received a special quality mark.
