IMI Lab visits C/O Pop in Cologne

CO Pop 2

How can an urban music conference and festival help the music industry become more sustainable? With this question in mind, young professionals from various Inholland programmes are collaborating with the German music festival C/O Pop in Cologne. At the end of the current semester, the teams will present several implementable concepts to C/O Pop.

The  IMI Lab is a hybrid multidisciplinary learning environment. Within the lab's curriculum, teams of students collaborate with music industry partners to explore current challenges in the music ecosystem. For a year now, the German C/O Pop has been one of the partners, organizing an annual music industry conference and a showcase festival in Cologne.

This semester, the young professionals working in the IMI Lab had the opportunity to participate in the conference and visit the festival that took place from April 20 to 24. This offered them a unique opportunity to learn more about current issues in the music industry. But it also gave them the opportunity to do fieldwork on the spot, for example, participant observations and the opportunity to interview professionals from the music industry.IMG-20220421-WA0007

During the conference, there were several panels that were relevant to the students, for example on gender equality and inclusivity, a theme that another team of young professionals is working on. Also, panels focused on topics such as NFTs for artists, which was especially relevant to another group of young professionals working on the use of blockchain technology in the music industry.

In the evening, students could enjoy some showcase performances by emerging artists and there was still plenty of free time to explore the beautiful city of Cologne.

More information about the IMI Lab can be found at the website, Instagram of LinkedIn.
