What are the requirements for a work placement?

To be approved by the programme, a placement assignment must meet the following conditions:

  • The assignment is clearly defined and suitable for reporting and evaluation.
  • The activities support the student’s learning objectives. The emphasis is on learning (knowledge, experience and skills) taking priority over the economic value of the work. The placement duration depends on the degree programme.
  • The student has a workplace mentor who provides guidance and support.
  • The organisation must be of sufficient size to give insight into a complex working environment.
  • The work is at higher professional education (bachelor) level and includes varied, relevant tasks, increasing responsibility, and space for initiative.

Work placement agreement

It is compulsory to record the agreements made at the start of the placement between the student, Inholland and your organisation in writing. These are set out in a placement agreement.

A typical agreement includes:

  • the start and end date of the placement period
  • working hours and days off
  • the student’s position within the organisation, including their rights and responsibilities
  • the placement allowance (if applicable)
  • the name and position of the workplace mentor
  • a description of the placement assignment
  • any other relevant matters for the three parties, such as confidentiality, termination conditions, and dispute resolution

Regarding confidentiality: the student must always be able to share their placement report or graduation project with the educational institution so that we can assess the placement and academic progress.
