Rent a studio in Amsterdam

Long term stay in Amsterdam

Inholland has studios available for new first year international students (including students from Surinam and the Caribbean), that don't live in the Netherlands yet. The studios are for individual use only, and are located in Sluisbuurt, right next to the University.

Please note: the studios are allocated on a first come first serve basis, so we recommend you to apply as soon as possible. We can't guarantee a studio for every student.

As finding suitable housing in time is unlikely, we advise against coming to the Netherlands if you haven’t found housing one month before the start of your degree programme.

How to apply

How to apply

New international students (starting in September 2026 / February 2027)
You can book accommodation in Amsterdam even while your application for the study programme is still being processed. However, to receive the keys to your studio at the start of the rental contract, your application must be complete by 12 August 2026 / 15 December 2026 at the latest. This means:

If your application is not complete by the given deadline, your rental contract will unfortunately be cancelled.

What happens after my application?

  1. Access the ROOM.nl portal
A few weeks after the application deadline, you will receive login details for the ROOM.nl portal. In this portal, you can view the available rooms, including photos and important information.

  2. Select your room
You will have two days to choose a room. If you do not make a selection within this period, your booking opportunity will expire and you will no longer be able to reserve a room.

  3. Upload your documents
After selecting a room, you will receive instructions from DUWO to upload the necessary documents in the DUWO portal. Do so within three days after selecting your room.

  4. Make your payment
DUWO will also send you instructions on how to arrange the initial payment.

  5. Sign your contract
Finally, you will be asked to digitally sign your contract in the DUWO portal. Once the contract is signed, your booking is confirmed.

You need to pay and sign your contract within two weeks after DUWO has approved your documents. If you do not meet the deadline, your reservation will be cancelled. Be prepared to take action when you receive emails, and ensure you have the money ready for the first payment.

New studios Sluisbuurt

New studios

Student housing organisation DUWO has recently built new studios right next to the Inholland campus in Amsterdam (Sluisbuurt). Each studio is for individual use, fully furnished, and comes with a private bathroom, toilet, and shower.

The building also features common areas where you can meet and connect with other students.

Location

Although the studios are registered under two different addresses (George Balanchinestraat & Merce Cunninghamplantsoen), they are all situated on the same location.

Size of the studios and rent

  • Studio A: ± 20-21 m²; 498,20€ (+ 269,35€ service costs) = 767,55€ per month
  • Studio B: ± 20-21 m²; 713,02€ (+ 269,35€ service costs) = 982,37€ per month
  • Studio C: ± 42 m², € 713,02€ (+ 279,34€ service costs) = 992,36€ per month

The rent includes electricity, gas, heating, water, internet and TV cable connection. The administration fee, cleaning costs, kitchen package, bed linen and local taxes are not included.

On the DUWO website, you can find the inventory list, which shows all the items included in the studios when you move in.

Housing benefit / rental allowance

You might be eligible for housing benefit / rental allowance, which can significantly reduce your monthly rent. Make sure to have your DigiD ready, as you will need that to apply for housing allowance. However, keep in mind that it may take several weeks for the municipality to process your application.

How to get to the school building

How to get to the school building

Very easy! The new studios, which our students moved into on March 20, 2026, are located just around the corner from the school.

Although the studios are registered under two different addresses, they are all situated within the same building.

Public transport
Even though you can easily walk to school, it may still be worthwhile to purchase a discount card for public transportation. You can check the options on the website of the public transportation company of the Amsterdam region, called GVB

European students that work in the Netherlands may be eligible for a student public transport card, that gives you the option to travel for free on week OR weekend days. On the website of the government you can find the requirements and more information. Unfortunately, non-European students are not eligible for this.

On the website/app 9292 you can find out more about the options of public transport, the price, etcetera. Use OV Info to check real-time departure times.

Rental dates

Rental period for academic year 2026-27, students starting in September

For Degree Seekers starting in September 2026, the rental dates are:

24 August 2026 - 30 July 2027

Please keep in mind that it is not possible to extend the rental contract after the dates mentioned above. This means that you will have to look for a room on your own after the first year.

First payment

First payment

Your first payment consists of the following parts:

1. Rent and deposit

  • First month (24-31 August 2026)
  • Second month (September 2026)
  • Last two months (June 2027 + July 2027 )

2. Welcome package (mandatory)

  • Duvet and sheet package (a new pillow, a new duvet and new sheets): €55
  • Kitchen & welcome package (basic kitchen utensils and pans): €72,15
  • Administration fee: €17,01
  • Cleaning costs Echtenstein-Daalwijk/Darlingstraat: €86,10/€112,35

You need to pay this amount in order to finish your booking. Be prepared to make this payment when starting the process of booking your room. DUWO will provide you with further instructions about the payment options.

After your first year

After your first year

You can only book a studio through Inholland with DUWO for one year maximum. That means that you will have to find your own accommodation after the first year.

Please note: You cannot have two rental contracts consecutively. For example, if your current DUWO contract ends in July, you are not eligible for a new contract starting in August. There must be a gap of 1 semester in between contracts.

A lot of student rooms in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Delft and Haarlem are listed on ROOM.nl. We recommend you to register there as soon as possible (even before coming to the Netherlands), as you will build waiting time from the moment of registration. This gives you a higher chance to be eligible for a room. You pay a one-time registration fee of €35.

For more information and to register, check ROOM.nl.
