Hospi Housing

Stay with a host or guest family

Hospi Housing is the biggest platform for homestay in the Netherlands. They offer a free-to-use platform with hundreds of verified hosts and guest families. Hospi Housing does not charge any registration fees, you only pay a one-time fee if you find a room. Before and during your stay they provide personal advice to get you well prepared for your arrival in Rotterdam.

Staying with a host or guest family will give you a soft landing in town and is the perfect way to get in touch with Dutch culture and language. You’ll have your own private room and shared facilities like a kitchen and bathroom.

RoomPlaza offers furnished rooms in flatshare apartments. It offers flats for groups, and you can use the find-flatmate-tool to create one.

Beware of housing scams

Be aware of scams

Unfortunately, there are people who will try to take advantage of students desperate to find accommodation. Check whether the agency is listed on the Dutch Chamber of Commerce website (in Dutch, but simply insert the agent's name in the search bar to look for listings). We advise you to check if the agency really exists. Be critical and check for reviews or warnings. Please be aware that during your (online) search you might encounter frauds.

How to protect yourself?

  • Never send a copy of your ID or passport if you do not know who the owner is.
  • Do not pay a deposit or rent before you are in possession of the keys. If a landlord offers you to send keys by post it might be a sign of fraud.
  • Avoid renting an apartment that you have not seen. If the landlord cannot show you the apartment that is a red flag.
  • Do not make payments via Western Union, PayPal accounts or to foreign accounts. Be critical of the account details. Does the bank name look legitimate?
  • Always check the address that is on offer.
  • Never trust an offer that is too good to be true, it probably is.
