Early departure or late arrival

Early departure or late arrival

If you will arrive more than a week after the starting date of your rental contract, you need to notify both Inholland's international office and housing corporation DUWO. If you fail to do so, the room will be allocated to someone else and you will still be charged the first month's rent and administration costs.

Fixed dates
It is not possible to get a reduction for late arrival or early departure.

Finding your own accommodation

Finding your own accommodation

It is very difficult to find accommodation in Haarlem due to a shortage of student rooms. If you want or need to look for housing on your own, we advise you to start looking at least three to four months before arrival!

Be aware of scams

Unfortunately, there are people who will try to take advantage of students desperate to find accommodation. Check whether the agency is listed on the Dutch Chamber of Commerce website (in Dutch, but simply insert the agents name in the search bar to look for listings). We advise you to check if the agency really exists. Be critical and check for reviews or warnings. Please be aware that during your (online) search you might encounter frauds.

How to protect yourself?

  • Never send a copy of your ID or passport if you do not know who the owner is.
  • Do not pay a deposit or rent before you are in possession of keys. If a landlord offers you to send keys by post it might be a sign of fraud.
  • Avoid renting an apartment that you have not seen. If the landlord cannot show you the apartment that is a red flag.
  • Do not make payments via Western Union, PayPal accounts or to foreign accounts. Be critical of the account details. Does the bank name look legitimate?
  • Always check the address that is on offer
  • Never trust an offer that is too good to be true, it probably is

For Dutch students

For Dutch students

If you live more than 80 kilometres away from Haarlem, you can sign up for a waiting list. If we have rooms available at the beginning of the semester (beginning of September or beginning of February), we will offer them to the students on this waiting list (first come, first served).

Please note that new international students always have priority. We cannot give any guarantees that we can offer a room. Therefore we strongly advise you to check the website of DUWO and other student housing corporations, such as De Key, Our Campus, Student Hotel etc.

Although the international office and housing corporation DUWO do their best to meet your preferences, we cannot guarantee that everyone’s preferences are met. Also, as our number of rooms is limited, we cannot give any guarantee that you will get a room.
