Find what you need on Iris faster

Van zoeken naar vinden

Looking for a form, your timetable, student support or a specific page on Iris? You know the information is there, but finding it isn’t always easy. We want to make it quicker and easier for you to find what you need. Now we’re making things even simpler by giving you one search bar for all of Iris.

One search bar for Iris
Right now, there are several ways to search on Iris. There’s a search bar at the top of Iris and another one in the Knowledgebase. You can also search within sections such as Who is Who and Events.

With so many options, it’s not always clear which search bar to use. That’s about to get easier. The search bar in the Knowledgebase will disappear. From now on, simply use the search bar at the top of Iris.

Search Iris and more
The main search bar searches across Iris, but it can also help you find information elsewhere. This includes documents stored in OneDrive, on SharePoint sites or in Teams. You can also search Inholland news or the library catalogue.

Just click the down arrow to the left of the search box and choose where you want to search. There’s no need to know where something is stored before you get started.

Made a typo? No problem. The search function recognises spelling mistakes and can still help you find relevant results.

Six tips for better searches
Having a good search function helps, but using the right search terms can make finding information even quicker.

1. Start with what comes to mind
Don’t worry about getting your search exactly right. Start with the main words that describe what you’re looking for and see what comes up.

2. Keep it short and simple
A few clear keywords often give you better results than a full sentence.

3. Try different words
Can’t find what you need? Try a similar word or describe it differently. For example, if ‘timetable’ doesn’t give you the right result, try ‘schedule’ or ‘class times’.

4. Check more than the first result
The information you need won’t always be the first result. Take a quick look at the titles and descriptions to see which result best matches your search.

5. Use quotation marks for exact phrases
Looking for a specific phrase? Put it in quotation marks. This tells Iris to search for those words together and can help narrow down your results.

6. Narrow down your results
You’ll see several options above your search results, such as Knowledgebase, Who is Who, Events and Files. Select one to only see results from that part of Iris.

You can also use the filter to the left of the search bar to choose where you want to search.

Start searching
You don’t need to know exactly where something is stored on Iris. Start with a few simple keywords and see what comes up. You can then narrow down your results to find the information you need.
