Under certain circumstances, study trips are allowed from 1 September on

Study trips and travelling for international projects within Europe is allowed from 1 September 2020 on. However, in all cases there must be a positive travel advice on the date of departure. This means that travel advice code ‘yellow’ or ‘green’ (according to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs) must apply to the outward bound. In addition, there is an urgent advice to closely monitor the government information provided by the host country.

The following guidelines apply to all trips:

  • You are required to register with MoveOn (in relation to crisis management and automatic student insurance for study trips).
  • If a study trip or project is a mandatory part of the study programme, your programme department must ensure there is a Plan B for you, such as an online version of the study trip or project.
  • Your programme department must also inform you about potential risks and see to good preparation, supervision, guidance and support in the event anything happens.
  • You must have good insurance (travel insurance and healthcare insurance).

When the travel advice suddenly changes:

  • Remain aware of the fact that the travel advice can shift within a day if there is a COVID-19 upsurge. In such cases, you yourself will bear the financial consequences of a potential trip cancellation. Inholland will not reimburse any costs in the event of repatriation being required.
  • If the travel advice colour code shifts to ‘orange’ or ‘red’ on the day of departure, you will not be allowed to travel.
  • If the colour code changes to ‘orange’ while you are abroad, consultation with your programme department will take place to decide whether it is possible and necessary to return to the Netherlands. In all cases, the instructions of the local authorities and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (on the latter's website) must be heeded.
  • If the colour code changes to ‘red’ during the stay abroad, you will be requested to return to the Netherlands. A well-considered decision will be taken in consultation with your programme department, with safety remaining the primary concern.
  • If travel is possible, carefully check which restrictions are in place in the destination country.
