A Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics Teacher’s Guide to Race-Based Medicine, Inclusivity, and Diversity
Samenvatting
The relationship between race and biology is complex. Although race is a social construct measured via self-identification, it is often used as a variable in medical guidelines based on correlation with unmeasured health-related factors. In teaching, this complexity is insufficiently addressed, leading to the medicalization of race, reinforcement of healthcare disparities, and biased clinical case vignettes. This guide aims to help our colleagues and teachers in other health professions to reflect on and improve education on race-based medical guidelines and to make our clinical case vignettes more inclusive and diverse.
