Law program: Senior students supporting first-year education How can you enhance first-year student support while offering senior students a meaningful role? In the Law program, student assistants were deployed in the courses Introduction to Research Skills and Criminal Law. They supported first-year students during tutorials, helped with assignments, and acted as approachable peers. Their involvement led to more classroom interaction, higher pass rates (in Research Skills), and increased confidence – both for themselves and their fellow students. “I liked being given that responsibility – it gave me the confidence to stand in front of the class,” said one student assistant. The pilot offers valuable insights into how to effectively integrate student assistantship into the curriculum.
