Prof. Dr. Berno van Meijel is lector en bijzonder hoogleraar GGZ-Verpleegkunde en verbonden aan het domein Gezondheid, Sport en Welzijn, het Centre of Expertise Preventie in Zorg & Welzijn en het cluster Nursing van Hogeschool Inholland. Met praktijkgericht wetenschappelijk onderzoek op het gebied van de geestelijke gezondheidszorg, de verstandelijke gehandicaptenzorg en de psychogeriatrische zorg draagt hij bij aan kennisontwikkeling en kennisverspreiding. Dit gebeurt in nauwe samenwerking met onderwijs en het werkveld, teneinde de verpleegkundige zorg in het algemeen te verbeteren. De onderzoeksresultaten zijn in de meeste gevallen direct toepasbaar in de praktijk en het onderwijs aan verpleegkundigen en agogisch opgeleiden.
Het onderzoek in het lectoraat en leerstoel GGZ-Verpleegkunde is breed van opzet. Het gaat veelal om beschrijvend onderzoek waarvan kennis benut kan worden voor toekomstige interventie-ontwikkeling. Voorbeelden zijn het onderzoek naar zorgbehoeften van depressieve ouderen of de beleving van vrijheidsbeperking op acute opname-afdelingen.
Samenwerken
Samen met (docent)onderzoekers, studenten en tal van universiteiten en andere kennisinstellingen werkt Van Meijel aan scholings- en interventieprogramma's. Dan gaat het bijvoorbeeld om de effectieve omgang met zelfbeschadigend gedrag of de ‘collaborative care programma's’ voor patiënten met een bipolaire stoornis of een ernstige persoonlijkheidsstoornis. Deze programma's worden ook op hun effecten onderzocht.
Wie is Berno van Meijel?

Van Meijel is sinds 2003 lector GGZ-verpleegkunde bij Hogeschool Inholland. Per 1 oktober 2014 is hij tevens benoemd tot bijzonder hoogleraar GGZ-verpleegkunde bij de afdeling Psychiatrie van het Amsterdam UMC (tot voor kort VU Medisch Centrum). Daarnaast werkt Van Meijel een dag in de week bij de Parnassia Groep als onderzoeker/adviseur. Sinds 2018 is hij ook senior-onderzoeker en –adviseur aan de Opleidingsinstelling GGZ-Verpleegkundig Specialisten.
Ervaring
In 2003 promoveerde Van Meijel op terugvalpreventie bij patiënten met schizofrenie. Daarnaast werkte hij bij de disciplinegroep Verplegingswetenschap van het UMCU en werkte daar ook als universitair docent. Tevens werkte hij gedurende vier jaren als docent bij de HBO-V van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam. Daarnaast heeft hij meerdere voorzitterschappen en lidmaatschappen op zijn naam staan van wetenschappelijke programmacommissies, congressen en symposia.
Over Berno
Na zijn opleidingen tot A-verpleegkundige en HBO-V werkte Berno van Meijel als verpleegkundige bij de divisie Psychiatrie van het Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht (UMCU). In 1991 studeerde hij af in de sociale wetenschappen aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Hij werkte als onderzoeker bij het Trimbos Instituut. In 1993 werd hij stafmedewerker voor de Raad van Bestuur (UMCU), belast met de ontwikkeling van verplegingswetenschappelijk onderzoek.
